A Fashionable Summer of Love

When considering looks from current trends, it’s highly recommended that you invest in timeless pieces. Key pieces that are classic and timeless hold a lot of staying power in your closet. Silhouettes from this era fit into this profile, so don’t be afraid to spend a bit more. It’s worth every dollar. Remember, you don’t need to go broke in order to have a strong wardrobe. Put together an ensemble that captures you. You are your own advertisement. From the large hats and high platforms to luxe draped jump suits, this fashion style eludes sex appeal. So when wearing these clothes, walk with confidence because you look fabulous.

It feels so good to look good. Many people forget that there were a lot of beautiful, chic clothes in the 1970s. Wide leg trousers are the new skinny jeans. Long flowing maxi dresses are the new minis. High-waist pants takes over low-rise pants.

The perfect starting point for your 1970s look is wide leg pants. It will give your wardrobe a life in spirits. To give yourself a flattering figure, the flared cut elongates the leg to give you a sexy and feminine silhouette. When the leg on that pant gets wider, it gives a balanced, proportionate look to a wider hipline. When pants are tapered at the bottom, it accentuates the width of a woman's hips. The key is to wearing flared pants are high-heels.

The waistline is moving up more toward a natural waist, so that gives you a great long-legged look. They crept back to the scene in past seasons, but made a bang on the runways today. The mid to high rise pants may seem and feel a little strange, but don’t be apprehensive to this look, this is a welcome change. Wear this style with a tucked in blouse, a skinny belt and platform heels for a stylish work look.

Maxi dresses are seen everywhere. More than 15 styles were seen in less than 20 minutes on my last trip to Bloomingdales women’s department. Again, I must say the 1970s styles leave me smiling. Pair maxi dresses with a pair of flat sandals for a casual daytime look. Pair them with high wedges or platforms for a chic evening look.

The subtle play of masculine and feminine worn together was one of the most chic things about the 1970s. A subtle way to show the contrast is to pair a feminine blouse with trousers. Jumpsuits are also everywhere and come in a variety of different styles, from loose drawstring short styles to strapless, long wide leg pieces. Both can be fabulously paired with a turban or scarf tied around the head. Mixing leopards with plaids is again fashion favorable. It’s fine to mix prints; just stay within the same color story. Be prepared for all eyes on you. Display your personality taste, and, style in everything you do and say and keep smiling all the way.
