Trend Report: Girly Glam
Rebecca Taylor had a dream in life. Ms. Taylor grew up a girly girl with tutus and fairy wings, and lots of sparkle. She followed this love of girly dressing throughout her life. Ms. Taylor attended the Wellington School of Design and upon graduation moved to the United States. She had only $600 to her name but the idea that she could design gorgeous and high quality fashions that would flatter a women led her on. Rebecca Taylor worked for Cynthia Rowley in New York City for six years. This Seventh Avenue education was a springboard to Rebecca Taylor launching her eponymous line in 1996.

BOYT: Do you have a style philosophy?
Rebecca Taylor: Accessible, wearable luxury mixed with a bit of sparkle!
BOYT: Who is the Rebecca Taylor woman, and what is she wearing right now?
Rebecca Taylor: She is feminine, flirty, smart and confident. Heading into the warmer months, she brightens up her wardrobe with fun summer prints, layering with her lightweight cashmere when it’s a bit chilly.
BOYT: What tips can you give to women to help them dress with confidence?
Rebecca Taylor: Don’t take fashion too seriously. Have fun with it! Take a chance and try new looks!
BOYT: What is the sexiest thing a woman can wear?
Rebecca Taylor: I am a big fan of clothes that exude subtle sexiness such as an open back or a pretty neckline.
BOYT: How do you feel the economy has affected the Fashion Industry and has it changed the way you do business?
Rebecca Taylor: Everyone has been affected by the downturn of the economy in the last couple of years. It has forced us to look at our business and restructure it, in order to run a cleaner & more efficient business.
BOYT: If you could choose one celebrity to represent Rebecca taylor, who would that be and why?
Rebecca Taylor: Taylor Swift, she is the quintessential Rebecca Taylor girl. She is young, cool, smart and sexy.
BOYT: Who is YOUR favorite designer and why? Does it influence your designs?
Rebecca Taylor: Miuccia Prada. Her designs are modern, feminine and smart! All good things to look for.
BOYT: What advice would you give your 20 year old self?
Rebecca Taylor: Hard work combined with passion and dedication pays off!
BOYT: Given the demands of a successful career, how to you recharge and rejuvenate?
Rebecca Taylor: I love spending time with my 3 young children and my husband, I feel refreshed after a long weekend of family time.
BOYT: What aspect of your career are you most proud of?
Rebecca Taylor: Growing our business globally to what it has become has been quite an achievement for us. Also, constantly evolving my design process and creating 9 special collections a year has been challenging but extremely rewarding at the same time.
BOYT: Tell us one thing that might surprise our readers
Rebecca Taylor: I love beauty products and when I was younger I wanted to be a make-up artist.

Rebecca Taylor’s sexy, kittenish clothing has inspired legions of loyal customers to indulge their feminine wiles. The native New Zealander moved to New York after graduating from the Wellington School of Design. While working for a leading Seventh Avenue designer, Rebecca Taylor met her future business partner Elizabeth Bugdaycay, who encouraged Rebecca Taylor to launch her own collection. Bugdaycay balanced out Rebecca Taylor’s creative skills with her background in economics and her business-minded approach. Together they forged an unstoppable team.
